Room 507, Thursday Daytime

It had taken a few weeks, but Jason had finally come to terms with the fact that with Tim back in Gotham, his room was all his own. It was crazy to have so much space all to himself, and he knew he was probably tempting fate into giving him a roommate from the new kids coming in, but if everything in the room was his now, Jason was going to rearrange it all to look how he wanted. If he did end up with a new roommate, well, they'd just have to deal because he was here first. At least, that was how he was telling himself it would work as he moved things around.

"Trust me, I agree with you," Nico told him. "I just don't expect people to get it like you do." Noticing Jason's fascination with his arm, Nico added, "You can touch it if you want. I don't mind."

"Are you sure it won't hurt?" Jason asked, even as he traced the outline of the skull with his finger. "I've lost people way before I was supposed to. So, I get it."

"I'm sure." Nico turned his head to watch Jason's finger move over his skin. "I guess we've got something in common, though I wouldn't wish it on anyone."

"Me neither. I wouldn't have wished it on you either though. You didn't deserve to go through all that," Jason said, tracing the outside of the tattoo now and feeling the way it raised Nico's skin.

"Do you think anyone deserves their own fate?" Nico asked, curious about what Jason thought about a lot of things.

That didn't seem like a rhetorical question, so Jason actually thought about it. "Sometimes they do. People who work hard and end up happy deserve that," he said. "And some people deserve the crap that happens to them. But a lot of people don't get what they deserve. Otherwise the world would be fair, and we can't have that." His tone was a little sarcastic at the end there.

"And there'd be no point fighting it," he added, liking Jason's answer, sarcasm and all. "I shouldn't be surprised we can agree."

"Do you think you can fight fate?" Jason asked, equally interested in Nico's thoughts. "And get what you deserve in the end?"

"Oh yeah. I've done it before and I'll do it again," Nico shared, thinking there was no way he was going to let the history of his world repeat itself for others. "Though I don't know if it'll help anyone get what they deserve. I just refuse to sit back and watch stupid things happen." Apollo was going to love hearing that.

Jason smiled at that and snickered. "I'm not surprised we can agree either," he said. "I guess going through the same kinds of stuff gives you a similar outlook on things."

"Yet another reason you're awesome." Nico smiled, turning onto his side to face Jason because he liked watching him, no matter what the other boy was doing. "When we started talking I was worried about freaking you out or scaring you off, but I'm getting the feeling you won't be fazed no matter what crazy thing I tell you about my life."

Jason shrugged, but he couldn't stop himself from blushing at being called awesome. "I don't know, some stuff might still throw me. Like, you secretly being a girl, or your tattoo psychically linked you to Luke and Percy or something."

Now that Nico had to laugh at, reaching to mess with Jason's hair. "Dude, if I was linked to Luke and Percy, I would be begging you to beat me to death with that baseball bat of yours. But I was totally a girl for a few days and...that was just terrible."

Jason swatted at Nico's hand to try to keep his hair in place. "I didn't think being a girl was so bad. The boobs were kind of distracting though. And I was even shorter, which is just ridiculous."

"I can't imagine you shorter," Nico teased, saving his hand by settling it on Jason's chest. "I thought the whole thing was kind of a nightmare. But then, I'm not all that into boobs."

"Yeah, I know, I'm short enough already," Jason said, smirking as he put his hand over Nico's. "You don't like boobs? I never would have been able to guess."

It was good to know at least one person understood him. "Percy thought I was. That kid pays no attention to the world around him, I swear I could be a gorgon and he wouldn't notice."

"Isn't that dangerous? For you guys to not pay attention to your surroundings?" Jason asked. "That was one of the first things I got trained in. It's too important to be aware of things."

"I mean in more of a self-centered about life sort of way. Toss him in battle and you're good." Nico couldn't deny that Percy could fight. "Now, Jason Todd, you're capable of combining your smarts with your observations. Makes you dangerous in a different way."

"You think I'm dangerous?" Jason asked. He perked up a little at that because really, how cool did that sound?

Nico appreciated the way Jason perked up and he smiled a little. "Uh huh. You're probably dangerous in a lot of ways beyond that whole beating things up with your fists thing I've heard about."

"Really?" Jason asked, looking at Nico like doing that would tell him how the other boy's mind worked. "How do you think I'm dangerous?"

Nico didn't know how to react to that sort of look, but he didn't flinch away. "You pay attention."

"How does that make me dangerous?" Jason asked. "It just makes me, you know, observant."

"Intelligence plus observation equals dangerous deductions," Nico told him, tapping his chest in time with the words. "I'm betting I should keep my evil master plans far from your radar."
