Room 507, Thursday Evening

With only one class left between himself and spring break, Jason was taking some time to try to start packing. "Try" being the operative word there, since he'd never actually been to Hawaii, and didn't know what to pack. He knew how to pack light, and he knew how to pack for emergencies, so he was trying to combine those and make it all fit into one bag. So far, his plan was working well enough, but he wasn't sure how long that would last.

"I don't know," he said doubtfully. "The prevailing winds are from the northeast so when they hit land, they dump the water right away. Maybe it won't though. Or maybe it'll be fun in the rain too."

Jason couldn't help but laugh. "I think you're more prepared for the trip than I am, even without the packing. Something tells me you're not going to be working on your tan."

Bobby wrinkled his nose a little. "...is that what people do? They know that you get skin cancer from too much sun, right? And...it sounds boring."

"Lots of people do it, yeah. I don't think they really worry about skin cancer," Jason said. "And you can do stuff while getting tan. Like get drunk." Because that was totally something Bobby would be into, of course.

"I don't think that sounds like a good idea," Bobby said. "They still have a drinking age in Hawaii, you know. And it might be dangerous."

"You should definitely tell people that," Jason said, because he was a terrible person sometimes. "That it's dangerous and they shouldn't do it."

He frowned a little, thinking of Missy and...everything last year. It was dangerous. "Yeah, you're probably right," he agreed. "Do you think I should say something before we go? Or sometimes you can find buttons or pledges or something for people who promise not to drink."

Oh man, it was a good thing their face was cute. "I think you should save the speeches for once we get there," Jason said. "I mean, there's no reason to say something if people aren't going to drink. Maybe no one will be able to. The bartenders might be a lot more strict there than they are here." And then poor Bobby wouldn't get glared at or beaten up, which was always a good thing.

"That's a good idea, Jason, thanks!" Bobby said happily. "But maybe I can find some of those buttons to bring with me." He nodded. "I just don't want anyone to get hurt or anything. But hopefully the bartenders will just not serve kids underage. That would be best. And then everyone can do more fun things like going hiking in the mountains or maybe study the tide pools."

"You know that the point of spring break is to not study, right?" Jason said, shaking his head and snickering. "It's nice that you want everyone to be safe. I think a lot of the teachers are coming on the trip, so it should be fine." And yet, he was bringing his utility belt anyway, because you never knew with Fandom.

Bobby gave Jason a look. "You've met some of our teachers, right?"

"...okay, I don't expect the Vice Principal to stop anything," Jason said. "But some of them seem kind of responsible?"

"Well, okay, yeah, but just because there are teachers doesn't mean that we shouldn't act responsibly," he pointed out. "It's our responsibility to take care of our classmates."

"Yeah, I guess I can't argue with that," Jason said. "You know, for a geek, you've got a good amount of common sense sometimes."

"You think so?" Bobby asked, sounding surprised. "Cool!" Notice his lack of argument with being a geek. "Will you tell Jack that?"

"He's your big brother. Do you think he'd believe me even if I told him?" Jason asked. He had some assumptions about how the whole sibling thing worked.

"Well, he thinks you're cool so if someone else cool told him then yeah, he'd believe them way more than me. He knows me," Bobby "explained."

"He thinks I'm cool?" Jason asked, not used to hearing that from, well, anyone.

"I think so?" Bobby said. "I mean, I do, but I don't think it counts when I think that."

"No, no, it totally counts. Because I am cool," Jason said, like he thought that all the time.

Bobby snickered. "Thought you'd think so! So what are you packing? Are you going to go snokeling? I heard that was fun."

"Right now, I'm just picking regular clothes. I've never done anything like snorkeling, but I guess it'd be fun?" Jason said. "I'm looking forward to like, regular swimming."

"I'm hoping it's dark enough that someone's got a telescope," he said. "I mean, I'm going to bring mine, but a stronger one would be better."

"To look at the stars from Hawaii? Aren't they the same ones as here?" Jason asked. Science was not his forte, sorry Bobby.
